In the new knowledge economy society, effective
communication is one of the most important life skills for everyone to lead a
more satisfying life.
Effective
communication helps me to become more competitive and successful in the future
workplace. Effective communication is the receiver is able to fully understand
the meaning of the message which the sender wants to deliver. Therefore, it can
avoid misunderstandings and confusions between supervisors and subordinates. For
example, if a worker can understand his supervisor’s instructions effectively,
he would be hardly to take the wrong actions and hence makes fewer unnecessary
mistakes. By doing so, effective communication is very important for me to
perform well in a team and then improve the productivity.
On the
other hand, effective communication also allows me to build up a harmonious and
blessed relationship with friends, family as well as the society. It can
strengthen mutual understandings and trust, thus it provides better connections
among people. Such as if we could communicate with our parents effectively, we would
increase the family bond and avoid unnecessary quarrels and unhappiness with
our parents. Well, when our friends faced problems, we can be good listeners
and give positive suggestions. However, the most important lesson I leant from
ES2007S is that effective communication does not only concentrate on verbal
communication skills, but also non-verbal communication skills. I realize that
non-verbal communication, like body language, goes on all the time even when we
are silent. When our body language matches up with our verbal message, it reinforces
the message and increases the trusts. Otherwise, it generates mistrusts and
confusions.
In conclusion,
as long as I spent time on learning and practicing effective communication skills,
I believe that I can have a successful life one day.
A very thoughtful and reflective post Daniel. I could not agree more with you on the importance of effective communications when we enter the workforce. I have had my fair share of part time jobs and have experienced first hand about the problems caused by ineffective communications and communication breakdowns. They have caused time wastage and at times even disdain amongst fellow colleagues or subordinates. I believe that you would need to be a effective communicator to climb up the corporate ladder.

Hi Daniel
回复删除This is an interesting post. I can relate to the points that you have mentioned on the importance of communication for the workplace, family and friends. Without effective communication skills, we would not be able to get our points across and this would definitely result in many inconvenience and misunderstandings.
You have also mentioned about non-verbal communication as an essential part of communication. I agree with your statement and feel that this is often overlooked by many. I believe that both verbal and non-verbal aspects are equally important, so as to achieve effective communication.
Cheers,
